Voluntary Blood Donors’ Day

Chandigarh, October 1
Donating blood is not a responsibility but a moral obligation for him. Chanranjeet Singh (62) has been donating blood regularly for the past over four decades. Moved by the condition of soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Charanjeet donated blood in 1971 for the first time. He has donated blood 188 times to date. One of the most recognized blood donors at the PGIMER, the apex body encouraging voluntary donations; Charanjeet inspires young donors to retain their spirit of serving the ailing humanity.

25 shanties in Maloya village gutted
Chandigarh, October 1
A woman talks to her kin informing them about the fire that broke out in Maloya Colony on Tuesday As many as 25 shanties were gutted in a fire in Gwala colony in Maloya on Tuesday afternoon, leaving many people homeless. Officials of the Fire Department said, no injuries or casualties were reported. The Fire Department had received a call at 11.56 am and immediately three fire engines were pressed into service. Within 20 minutes they controlled the fire.

Misplacing blood samples of patients has become rampant at the PGIMER and the authorities seem to be ignorant of the faults of the staff involved in blood-sample collection. Officials at the PGIMER seemed to be unmoved by the patients’ ordeal who travels several miles, waits patiently in endless queues at the counters.

Workshop on fermentation technology

Two advocates acquitted

A local court today acquitted two advocates in a case of brawl that occurred during a hearing of the Beant Singh murder case in 2005. The court acquitted advocate AS Chahal and advocate SS Bawa in a case of wrongful restraint, causing hurt and obstructing public servant from performing duty after the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.

The court of Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal today acquitted a person in a case of rape after the victim turned hostile and told the court she was married to the accused and did not want any criminal proceedings against him.

The court has acquitted Ravinder Gill in a car theft case. Gill was accused of stealing a Swift Dzire car from outside Platinum Gym in Panchkula.

Usually busy in making plans to catch criminals, supervising major events and solving regular cases, Ashish Kapoor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police rank official of the Chandigarh police is bagging laurels in the world of sports.
Kapoor, who is in love with tennis and has a deep passion for the game, bagged a gold medal at the recently concluded World Police Games. He represented India in the World Police Games held at Belfast in Ireland.

ITBP defeat Ratwara Sahib Academy

On the opening day of 11th Olympian Dharam Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament, the ITBP team trounced Ratwara Sahib Academy while the Chandigarh XI team advanced to the second stage by defeating IAF side. The Punjab side scored 350-runs against Odisha on the opening day of 3rd edition of All India Dhruv Pandove Trophy for boys (U-19) today. Winning the toss, the side restricted the host team with Harisankar Patti peeked 4 for 57 while Devabrata Pradhan and Rajkishan Patel claiming three wickets each. For batting side, Anmolpreet Singh scored a brilliant century and scored 119-runs while Prabhjot Singh contributed 82-runs. In reply, Odisha team lost two wickets at the total of 18-runs.
