Rajnath replaces Modi as BJP poll campaign chief
Tribune News Service

Rajnath SinghNew Delhi, September 29
BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today relinquished the post of Election Campaign Committee chief in favour of party president Rajnath Singh. The development comes 15 days after Modi was appointed the BJP's PM candidate.

Modi proposed the name of Rajnath Singh for the post of Election Campaign Committee chief at a Parliamentary Board meeting held this evening. It was accepted unanimously by all board members, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar said.

Party leaders said this decision was expected as Modi could not have run his own campaign. Since 20 sub-committees have already been formed under the Election Campaign Committee and these are headed by various senior leaders, it was only proper that Rajnath Singh be appointed to head the panel, they said.

Unlike the low key change of guard today, Modi's elevation as Election Campaign Committee chief on June 9 at the BJP conclave in Goa was followed by high drama, including resignation of senior leader LK Advani from all party posts in protest.
