Manish Sirhindi & Suman Bhatnagar/TNS

Ambala, September 18
A man and his wife poisoned their six-year-old son before committing suicide at their rented accommodation in the Kaziwara area of Ambala city on Wednesday morning.

A suicide note signed by Rajeev Sabharwal (42) stated they were committing suicide because of financial problems and no one should be held responsible. Rajeev, who had been without a job for two years, had taken some loans, but could not repay them.

Neighbours said of late Rajiv had been unable to meet the family’s expenses despite help from relatives. Some neighbours said he could not arrange the school fee and books for his son, following which he sunk into depression.

The police said they recovered celphos tablets and a suicide note in Hindi from the Sabharwals’ room.

Financial woes

  • Rajeev Sabharwal (42) was unemployed for two years and had failed to repay his loans
  • When his mother visited their rented accommodation, no one answered the door, creating suspicion
  • On breaking open the door, Rajeev, his wife Renu (38) and son Tushar (6) were found dead
  • A suicide note in Hindi signed by Rajiv said they were committing suicide because of financial woes and no one was to blame
