Rahul to lead Cong in LS poll, says Sachin Pilot

New Delhi, September 10
Rahul Gandhi will lead the Congress from the front in the coming Lok Sabha as well as the Assembly polls, Union Minister Sachin Pilot said today, skirting the question whether he would be projected as Prime Ministerial candidate to take on Narendra Modi.

“I am making it very, very unambiguous to you. Rahul will lead this party to polls in 2014 and once we win, God willing, and when the UPA III is being formed, at that time you will see, who becomes our PM candidate,” he said.

He was asked why the ruling party is so diffident about projecting its Prime Ministerial nominee before elections when there are growing indications that Modi could be named BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate soon.

“You can be less flamboyant but you have to be humane, approachable, and an acceptable leader, who has the heart to carry people along. Whether you are in coalition or in single party rule, it does not matter. We are a collection of so many religions, cultures and ethnicity...to my mind, one person, who is able to transcend these divisions that we have of caste, religion, language and so on from this part of India to that part of India, the only person, who can symbolically epitomise all of India, is Rahul Gandhi,” Pilot said. — PTI

Tarun Gogoi roots for Rahul as next PM
Bijay Sankar Bora/TNS

Guwahati, September 10
Assam Chief Minister and a veteran leader of the Congress, Tarun Gogoi, today rooted for party vice-president Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister of the country.

“Though the Congress has not declared its Prime Minister candidate for the next General Election, I personally feel that Rahul Gandhi will be the right choice to succeed Dr Manmohan Singh who, in fact, has also advocated for Rahul as the next PM,” Gogoi said here today.

When asked, whether he was not happy with Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister, Gogoi was quick to point out that the question did not arise at all given that Dr Singh himself had openly prescribed for Rahul Gandhi as the next Congress PM of the country.
