Juvenile held guilty, to spend three years in special home
Disappointed by first conviction in case, Dec 16 rape victim’s family to appeal against verdict
New Delhi, August 31
In the first conviction in the December 16 gang-rape case, the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday found the minor offender guilty of murder and rape of a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist and sentenced him to a three-year detention in a “special home.”

Petrol to cost Rs 2.35 more, diesel up by 50 paisa; LPG next
New Delhi, August 31
Petrol price has been hiked by Rs 2.35 per litre and diesel by 50 paisa excluding state levies effective midnight. This is the fifth increase in rates since June, as the falling rupee made oil imports costlier.

Not willing to give up the search for the mortal remains of its valiant soldiers killed in an an IAF AN-12 transport aircraft crash near Dhakka glacier almost 45 years ago, an Army search mission has recovered the remains of Hav Jagmail Singh of Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Pak moves artillery guns to LoC opposite Mendhar

On the lines of what they did in Kargil War in 1999, the Pakistan Army has adopted an aggressive posture moving artillery guns along the Line of Control (LoC) opposite Mendhar sector in Poonch district, 230 km northwest of Jammu.

Asaram arrested from Indore ashram
Indore, August 31
Asaram Controversial godman Asaram Bapu, accused of sexually assaulting a minor, was arrested by the Jodhpur police from his ashram here late tonight. Armed with a medical report that the godman was fit to be interrogated, a team of the Jodhpur police arrested 72-year-old Asaram and whisked him in a white jeep about half an hour after the stroke of midnight, after waiting for nearly eight hours at the ashram.

Faced with an embarrassing prospect of civic body men beating drums (dhols) in front of their houses, a majority of residents voluntarily coughed up their pending dues on the very first day of the drive on August 29.
