Mumbai/Delhi, August 25
All five men accused of gang-raping a young photojournalist in Mumbai have been arrested. The police is now trying to trace a mobile phone used to take pictures of the crime committed at a mill three days ago.

The Mumbai Police, in coordination with the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, arrested the fifth accused from Delhi today, said Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime Branch) RS Yadav.

Salim Mohammad Ansari (27) was arrested from JJ Colony in the Wazirpur area of North-West Delhi this morning. The accused had gone there to meet a relative.

A police officer said the Mumbai Police team came to the Bharat Nagar Police station to enquire about the location of a slum cluster in the Wazirpur area of North-West Delhi. On the basis of local informer, the address of the accused’s relative was confirmed and a raid was conducted.

He was taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for a medical examination. The police later took the accused to Mumbai, where was expected to be produced before court for remand tomorrow.

The Mumbai Police also arrested Mohammed Kasim Hafiz Shaikh, alias Kasim Bengali, a resident of Agripada in central Mumbai, around 4.15 am from Mumbai Central. His accomplice Siraj Rehman Khan (24) was arrested last night. Both were remanded in police custody till August 30. He was remanded in police custody till August 30.

Vijay Jadhav and Chand Hussain Sheikh were yesterday produced before court, which remanded them in police custody till August 30.

The 23-year-old victim, working as an intern with an English magazine, was gang-raped on the defunct Shakti Mills compound where she had gone along with a male colleague on an official assignment to shoot pictures on August 22. The police today told the court that Kasim Bengali was not cooperating in the investigation. He was not disclosing the location of a mobile phone that was used to shoot pictures of the victim.

In the remand application, the police claimed Bengali had admitted to his alleged role in the crime.

The police also told the court that they had recovered a broken piece of a beer bottle that the accused had used to threaten the victim.

The Mumbai police has now arrested all five accused - Chand Hussain Sheikh; Vijay Jadhav, alias Nanu; Siraj Rehman Khan, alias Ashfaq; Mohammed Kasim Hafiz Shaikh, alias Kasim Bengali; and Salim Mohammad Ansari.
