The group first came into the limelight after performing on a TV show some years ago and now has 700 members

Tarn Taran, August 5
Two brothers from the border town of Tarn Taran have set a Guinness World Record for breaking the maximum number of coconuts placed on the forehead with a baseball bat in one minute.

Kawaljit Singh and Gurinder Singh, both members of the Bir Khalsa Gatka group, managed to successfully break 65 coconuts placed on the forehead in one minute at an event in Istanbul (Turkey) on July 26.

“We would have liked to cut the coconuts with a sword as this is the way we do it while performing gatka (a Sikh martial art), but the organisers were not ready for it,” said Kawaljit, who is also the president of the gatka group.

The earlier record of breaking 57 coconuts was set by group members Gurpreet Singh and Kawaljit Singh. “Members of our group improved the record last time on April 18, 2012. But the Englishman who held the earlier record of breaking 41 coconuts challenged it. A competition was then organised in Istanbul to settle the matter,” said Gurinder.
