Chandigarh, July 31
The CBI court today ordered framing of charges against all accused, including Justice Nirmal Yadav (retd), in the cash-at-judge’s door case. CBI Judge Vimal Kumar fixed August 12 for framing of charges and directed Yadav along with the other accused to be present in court.

The CBI has charged Justice Nirmal Yadav (retd) with corruption under Section 11 (corruption and bribe by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Yadav was a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August 2008 when Rs 15 lakh in alleged bribe money was mistakenly dropped outside another judge’s official residence. Yadav later retired as judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.

The court also ordered framing of charges under Section 120B read with Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act against other accused, including Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh (who allegedly sent the money), former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjiv Bansal (who allegedly got the money delivered) and Chandigarh-based businessman Rajiv Gupta (Bansal’s partner) in the case.

The court also ordered charging Sanjiv Bansal, Rajiv Gupta and Nirmal Singh with creating false evidence under Sections 120 B read with Sections 193, 192, 196, 199, 200 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused, barring Yadav who got exemption from court, were present during today’s hearing. The court dismissed Bansal’s application seeking discharge from the case and accepted the chargesheet filed by the CBI.
