Faced with elections in five states followed by the General Election next year, the Congress today prepared ground to launch its ambitious “Right to Food” ordinance with party president Sonia Gandhi urging all Congress Chief Ministers to roll out the provision as soon as possible.

27 projects in 15 minutes, Hooda on a spree
Bawani Khera (Bhiwani), July 13
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his entourage descended on Bhiwani’s Bawani Khera village on Saturday and unveiled 27 development projects spread over several kilometres in around 15 minutes, setting a record of sorts.

Amar G Bose, the Indian-American visionary entrepreneur and acoustics pioneer, famous for making high-quality Bose audio systems and speakers for home users, auditoriums and automobiles, has died. He was 83.

Bofors scam accused Quattrocchi dies
Ottavio QuattrocchiNew Delhi, July 13
Controversial Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, who was a key figure in the Bofors payoffs scandal, has died in Milan following a stroke. Seventy-four-year-old Quattrocchi died peacefully yesterday and his funeral would take place on Monday, a member of the family told PTI on phone from the Italian city.

Kudankulam plant starts fission
Chennai, July 13
The much awaited event for the Indian nuclear establishment, the first unit at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) and India’s 21st reactor, began the nuclear fission process on Saturday night, officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) said. "At 23.05, the first reactor attained criticality and all the parameters are normal," a jubilant RS Sundar, site director of KNPP, said over the phone.
