Mumbai, June 26
A 10-year-old girl who was repeatedly raped by four boys aged between 14 and 16 years, died in a Mumbai hospital yesterday.

The incident came to light more than a week after the last assault when the child was admitted to the hospital with fever and other complications. “She was admitted to the Navi Mumbai municipal hospital where doctors found injuries on her private parts,” Inspector Suresh Bhosale of the Turbhe police station said.

“Her body has been sent for a post-mortem and we will come to know the actual cause of her death only thereafter,” Bhosale said.

However, the police has picked up four boys from the neighbourhood on the basis of a statement made by a child’s friend in whom the victim had confided about the assault. The police said the child was last assaulted by three boys last week who lured her by promising Rs 10 to do a chore. Prior to that, a fourth boy had assaulted her more than a month ago.

“The child had named the boys to her friend who later told the victim’s mother about them,” Bhosale said. The boys have been sent to a juvenile centre.
