Police arrest four Maoists in Odisha, recover explosives
Malkangiri, June 25 (ANI): Police in Malkangiri district of Odisha arrested four hardcore Maoists and recovered five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from them, which were planted in the surrounding areas with an aim to target the police. According to police officials the four Maoists who were arrested were from the Tumudimadka and Kurub village junction falling under Kalimela police station. They were arrested during an anti-Maoist operation, which was taken by the joint contingent of District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operation Group (SOG) and local police.



Japan takes steps to save energy and protect environment
Tokyo, June 25 (ANI): Manufacturing units in Japan are taking various measures to protect the environment by saving energy. OMRON Corporation, which produces healthcare products such as thermometer and tonometer, has reduced its power consumption by 50 per cent through Andon environmental information system. At OMRON’s Ayabe plant in Kyoto, 158 sensors have been installed on the floor to monitor the usage of power, temperature, humidity, air flow and dust particles. Since the East Japan Earthquake, efforts are on to save energy at the household level too, especially to reduce electricity bills. After the cabinet approval of liberalization of electricity retail market in April 2013, people have become conscious about saving electricity. 



PM, Sonia arrive in J&K amidst tight security
Kishtwar/ Srinagar, June 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, despite the terror attack in Srinagar. Eight soldiers were killed and 13 others injured when two militants opened fire on an Army convoy on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday. Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened in the valley. Dr. Singh on Monday condemned the terror attack and asserted that such cowardly acts would not deter efforts of security forces to bring about peace in the state. During the visit, Dr. Singh is expected to announce a package for the border districts of the state. The package will be for development and reconstruction of the border areas.

ITBP detains thieves with cash & jewellery in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand/ New Delhi, June 25 (ANI): Crisis and adversity brings the best out of human nature as well as the worst of it. Even as rescue operations are on, reports of jewellery and cash theft from various areas of flood-ravaged Uttarakhand are hitting the headlines. Thieves are not even sparing those who have perished in the disaster. The ITBP detained thieves with big bags filled with cash and jewellery during rescue operations. Chadha added that these suspects might have retrieved cash from ATMs or looted jewellery from the dead.
