Mumbai, June 22
Seven persons were killed in yet another building collapse, third in a fortnight, in the suburb of Dahisar East here today.

The police said the structure located near a market area collapsed around 6.30 am following heavy rain. Two of the dead have been identified as Faizan Shaikh and Dharmendra Harijan.

Three other victims died shortly after they were pulled out of the rubble and taken to a hospital.

Six people injured in the incident were admitted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.

Local MLA Vinod Ghosalkar whose office is located close to the scene of the collapse told mediapersons that the structure, Piyush building, was evacuated by the BMC two years ago as it was in a dilapidated condition.

“The building owners and tenants were locked in a dispute over its redevelopment because of which the structure was not demolished,” Ghosalkar said. He said vendors from the market area were using the building to store their wares. The dead and injured were vendors from the market, he added.
