The epicentre smells of death as bodies rot
Gaurikund/Kedarnath, June 22
An overwhelming stench of bodies and rotting carcasses wafts through the air as one nears the worst-affected stretch of the June-16 catastrophe in Uttarakhand.
Rescuers continue to locate survivors, some dangerously close to death due to injuries, starvation and thirst.

Over 70,000 evacuated, thousands still missing
New Delhi, June 22
Continuing evacuation through both aerial and land routes, over 70,000 persons have been moved to safer places from the flash-flood affected areas of Uttarakhand.

7 die in Mumbai building collapse
Mumbai, June 22
Seven persons were killed in yet another building collapse, third in a fortnight, in the suburb of Dahisar East here today.
The carried out after a building collapsed in Mumbai on Saturday. PTI police said the structure located near a market area collapsed around 6.30 am following heavy rain. Two of the dead have been identified as Faizan Shaikh and Dharmendra Harijan.

Days ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s June 25 visit to the state, Hizbul Mujahideen militants struck in the heart of the city shooting two policemen dead from point blank range. The attack took place near one of the two bridges that connect the city’s commercial hub and is less than 1 km from the heavily-fortified government headquarters.
