Mumbai, May 21
Actor Vindoo Randhawa, son of late wrestler-actor Dara Singh, was today arrested by the police in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal.

Vindoo was taken for questioning by the police from his residence at Juhu on Monday evening. He was arrested on Tuesday morning and was produced before a magistrate who sent him to police custody till May 24.

His arrest is the first from Bollywood in connection with the latest scandal to hit the Indian cricket. "Vindoo was questioned after he was found to be in contact with the bookies and subsequently arrested today," said a Mumbai Crime Branch police official. Vindoo (49), winner of reality television show Bigg Boss season 3, was in touch with some bookies arrested in the scandal and was himself into betting, claimed Crime Branch officials. He was on many occasions spotted watching IPL matches and attending post-match parties. The police said Vindoo was in regular contact with a notorious bookie, Ramesh Vyas, who was arrested by the Mumbai police a day before Sreesanth and two other cricketers were picked up. Vyas is said to have told investigators that Vindoo was one of his important links with cricketers. "We also want to find out if Vindoo was using his contacts with players to spot-fix IPL matches," the Crime Branch said in its remand application. The Crime Branch insisted that Vindoo's custodial interrogation was needed to establish the chain of people involved in the racket.
