Wheat arrival crosses 100 lakh-tonne mark: The wheat arrival across Punjab has crossed the 100 lakh-tonne mark. Sources said more than 101 lakh tonnes of wheat had arrived by Thursday evening in various grain markets of the state. Of it, about 100 lakh tonne had been procured by government agencies while the remaining had been purchased by traders. The arrival on Thursday was close to 1.95 lakh tonnes whereas on Wednesday it was 2.19 lakh tonnes. Seeing the current trend, the arrival of wheat is likely to be close to 115 lakh tones by the end of the current procurement season. Last year, it was 129 lakh tonnes. There have been reports regarding the fall in wheat yield this year owing to variations in
temperature at the crop-ripening stage.Moga
Woman constable beats man, booked: The police has booked a woman constable and her husband for allegedly thrashing a private bus conductor. In his complaint, Lakhwinder Singh alleged that the trouble started when he asked the woman constable to vacate the seat for an elderly man. Charges framed against Rajoana in Arms Act
case: A local court today framed charges against Balwant Singh
Rajoana, convicted in the Beant Singh assassination case, under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act in a case registered against him at the Sadar police station in 1995.
Rajoana was brought to the courtroom amidst tight security. The next date of hearing is May 15.
Rajoana is lodged in Patiala’s Central Jail.
