Badals in Delhi, firm up strategy to counter UPA on wealth tax
New Delhi, April 29
To mount pressure on the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to immediately rollback the wealth tax on agriculture land, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal held meetings with Janata Dal (United), Trinamool Congress and AIADMK leaders here today.

90% rail projects financially unviable, panel wants review
Chandigarh, April 29
Observing that only 12 out of the ongoing 109 projects to lay new railway lines were financially viable, with many of them running into huge cost and time overruns, a key parliamentary committee has recommended that the projects taken up on socio-economic considerations be reviewed so that a fair assessment of continuing or shelving such projects can be made.

India-China-Nepal trilateral cooperation mooted

Just when India and China are engaged in a border stand-off triggered by Chinese incursion in Ladakh, Nepal's Maoist leader and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kumar Dahal Prachanda today called for trilateral cooperation between India, China and Nepal for economic prosperity of the region.

The face-off between India and China in north Ladakh entered its 15th day today with Chinese troops pitching their fifth tent east of Raki Nullah and 30 km south-east from India’s advanced landing ground Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO).

Karnal gender ratio skewed no more
Karnal, April 29
When Komal gave birth to her second daughter in January, the infant was welcomed by the family with joy and open arms, a pleasant contrast from the “mourning and taunts” known to accompany the birth of a girl child in khap-land. What is heartening is that Komal’s is not an isolated case. The attitude towards the girl child is undergoing a change, as the female gender ratio figures for Karnal  district indicate.

BJP to allow Finance Bill in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, April 29
After five days of disruptions, the government breathed easy today after the BJP agreed at an all-party meeting to allow critical financial business to be transacted without disruption in the Lok Sabha tomorrow. The principal Opposition party will, however, make a political point by walking out of the proceedings, including voting on the Finance Bill. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj made the BJP stand known at the meeting convened by LS Speaker Meira Kumar today.
