New Delhi, April 27
Charging the Opposition with making a mockery of the system of democracy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today rejected its demand for his resignation as well as that of Law Minister Ashwani Kumar for alleged government interference in the preparation of the CBI report on the coal block allocations.

Sarabjit in coma; Family gets visa, to leave for Pak today
Islamabad/Amritsar, April 27 Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national on death row in Pakistan who was attacked by fellow inmates, is in deep coma and has been put on a ventilator as he fights for his life. The Pakistan Government has granted visas to Sarabjit’s family members who are set to leave for Lahore via Attari-Wagah border tomorrow morning. Punjab cop’s murder: 2 fugitives shot dead, third on the run
Bathinda, April 27
Two of the three undertrials who had escaped from a police van after gunning down a head constable near Maisarkhaana village on April 25 were shot dead in an encounter near Behniwal village in Mansa district early this morning. Kulwinder Singh and Nahar Singh were killed while Kulwinder’s brother Jaswinder escaped despite a police cordon in the area.

Coalgate: Fresh case against Delhi firm
New Delhi, April 27
The CBI today registered a fresh case against a Delhi-based company, Pushp Steels and Mining Private Limited, for alleged irregularities in coal blocks allocation and conducted raids at 10 places in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In the fresh FIR, names of two directors of the company -- Atul Jain and Sanjay Jain -- were also mentioned. Raids were also conducted on residential premises of the directors of the company.

27 firms underpaid tax in share transfers in last fiscal: Govt
Mumbai, april 27
The government said 27 companies, including the local units of HSBC, Standard Chartered and Vodafone, underpaid taxes in the last fiscal year after they sold shares to their overseas arms too cheaply.
