Mamata Banerjee announces 500 crore relief for chit-fund victims
Kolkata, April 25 (ANI): With the TMC Government in West Bengal drawing sharp criticism from the opposition parties over the alleged fraud by collapsed chit fund company Saradha Group, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced Rs. 5,000 crore relief for the victims. The West Bengal state government has constituted a special committee to undertake instant probe in the chit fund scam. It has been alleged that this investment company duped life-long savings of thousands of depositors, mostly with meagre source of income.
Omar urges centre to up its ante on China incursion
Kathua, April 25 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged the central government to give a clear-cut message to China after recent incidents of incursion by its troops into the Indian Territory. Addressing a rally in Kathua district of the state, Abdullah said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would not accept any kind of intrusion.
Jet Airways selling stake to Etihad for Rs 2,060 crore
New Delhi, April 25 (ANI): Fast-growing Etihad Airways is taking almost a quarter stake in Jet Airways (JET.NS), giving it a bigger foothold in the fast-growing Indian market. The $379 million investment is the first by an overseas operator in an Indian airline since ownership rules were relaxed and provides India's largest carrier with a deep-pocketed global partner as well as cash to retire debt.
Death toll in Bangladesh building collapse rises to 160
Dhaka, April 25 (ANI): The death toll from a building collapse in Bangladesh has risen to 160 and could climb higher, with people trapped under the rubble of a complex that housed garment factories supplying retailers in Europe and North America. The eight-storey building housed shops and five garment factories -- which employed mostly women. It was located in Savar, 30 km (20 miles) outside Dhaka.
