Protests raged for a second day in the Capital today over the brutal rape of a five-year-old as scores of BJP women activists marched towards Congress president Sonia Gandhi's house and broke barricades on the way denouncing the barbaric incident. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj's demand for death penalty to child rapists has got the backing of the CPM which said it was open to the idea.

PM: Women’s safety a matter of concern
New Delhi, April 21
As Delhi remained on the edge in the aftermath of the brutal rape of a five-year-old and reports of a similar heinous crime pouring in from Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today termed safety, security and status of women an area that was a “matter of concern” and required “vast improvements”.

A three-member committee formed in October last to go into the land deal has virtually “demolished” the then Director-General, Holdings and Consolidation, Ashok Khemka’s orders of cancellation of the mutation, brick-by-brick.

Sources said the party high command has asked Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Saifuddin Soz to look into the matter and submit a report.
