Terror strikes Bangalore; 16 injured
Blast near BJP office; 11 policemen among injured Bomb ‘planted’ on motorcycle
Bangalore, April 17
At least 16 persons, including 11 policemen, were injured in a bomb blast near the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s state office in the Malleswaram area of the city today. The blast later triggered a mudslinging fest among politicians in the poll-bound Karnataka.

SC: Can’t use 2-finger test on rape victims to prove consensual sex
New Delhi, April 17
In a far-reaching ruling that will impact thousands of rape cases pending in courts across the country, the Supreme Court has held that the two-finger test on rape victims should not be used to prove consensual sex.

Dutt gets four more weeks to surrender
New Delhi, April 17
Sanjay Dutt The Supreme Court today granted four more weeks to film actor Sanjay Dutt for his surrender to serve 3.5 years in jail, holding that the CBI had no business to oppose his plea as it did not even bother to challenge his acquittal under the prevention of terrorism law.

Trains to chug on new Chd-Ludhiana link from tomorrow
Chandigarh, April 17
After a wait of 12 years, the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link will finally be made operational from April 19. The first train from Chandigarh to Amritsar via Ludhiana using the new track will shorten the journey from Chandigarh to Ludhiana by half an hour. Earlier, the journey between the two cities via Sirhind used to take two hours.

Dalit killed brutally in Bhiwani village
Bhiwani, April 17
Some unidentified persons are alleged to have murdered a Dalit youth in the most brutal manner following which they then attempted to give it the shape of an accident. The incident occurred at Devsar village of Bhiwani on Tuesday night, but it came to light today morning. Though the exact cause of the murder is not yet known and will be revealed only after investigations, family of the victim is linking the murder to an incident of November last year, when members of the upper caste stopped a Dalit youth of their family from riding a mare on his wedding, leading to tension in the village.

A legendary pink diamond that once belonged to the Nizam has been sold for more than $39 million by Christie’s in New York. Originating from the ancient Golconda mines in Andhra Pradesh, where the most beautiful stones were always reserved for kings and rulers, the pink “Princie” diamond has set a new record for any jewel sold by Christie’s, surpassing the 2008 sale of the Wittelsback diamond that changed hands for $24.3 million.
