In an apparent terror attack on the US soil, two bomb explosions ripped through the cheering crowd at the finish line of the popular Boston Marathon, killing at least three persons and injuring 170 others.

34 killed as 7.8 quake rattles Iran, Pak; tremors felt in India
Dubai/Islamabad, April 16
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake today struck Iran -- the strongest to hit the country in 40 years -- killing 34 in a border region in Pakistan which bore the brunt and unleashed tremors in northwest India and Gulf Arab states. There was no official word on any casualties in Iran in the second powerful quake in a week.

The Supreme Court today directed the government to take a series of steps in the interest of Haj pilgrims. A Bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Desai said the Haj Policy 2013 would stay for five years and should be changed only if required under the annual agreement with Saudi Arabia.

China, Russia spent more on defence; India, USA less
New Delhi, April 16
China and Russia have increased their defence spending, while India and the USA have reduced theirs. Also, globally the defence spending has seen the first decline in 15 years, says data of think-tank the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released globally last night in Sweden.
