BJP president Rajnath Singh; Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday announced his team for the 2014 General Elections, with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi striking a comeback in the Central Parliamentary Board, the party’s top-most policy and decision-making body, and ensuring the plum post of general secretary for his controversial protégé Amit Shah.

Anna embarks on ‘Jantantra Yatra’ in Amritsar; says it’s 2nd freedom struggle
Amritsar, March 31
Anti-corruption crusader and social activist Anna Hazare today embarked on “Jantantra Yatra” after paying homage to the martyrs at the Jallianwalla Bagh while dubbing it as the “second freedom struggle” and vowing that they will not let the sacrifices of martyrs go waste.

Vijender took heroin 12 times: Punjab Police

Chandigarh, Mar 31
In fresh trouble for international boxer and Olympic medallist Vijender Singh, Punjab Police today said he had consumed heroin 12 times after procuring it from alleged drug smugglers including NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon. "As per investigation conducted so far, Vijender Singh consumed the drug about 12 times and Ram Singh (his sparring partner) about five times," a Punjab Police statement said here.

All-time-high wheat yield in Punjab,
Haryana expected
Chandigarh, March 31
Punjab and Haryana are all set to achieve an all-time-high wheat production during the current procurement season that begins tomorrow. It is estimated that procurement will increase by 5 per cent over last year. Sources in the Food Corporation of India said Punjab was prepared to procure around 140 lakh tonnes while Haryana was aiming at around 90 lakh tonnes.

US in touch with South Korea; ready to meet North’s threat

The US has said it is in close touch with South Korea and is prepared for any possible threat from the North, amid escalating tension in the Korean peninsula after declaration of "state of war" by Pyongyang.

Cash-strapped Punjab ends fee waiver
for schoolgirls
Chandigarh, March 31
Withdrawing its populist order after three years, the Punjab Education Department has ordered imposition of fees and other funds on girl students as well from Classes IX to XII. The order comes into effect from tomorrow.
