Shiv Kumar/TNS

Mumbai, March 21
Bahujan Vikas Aghadi MLA Kshitij Thakur and Ram Kadam of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, who were among several others charged with assaulting a police officer inside the Maharashtra Assembly complex on Tuesday, today surrendered before the Mumbai Crime Branch.

The two were formally arrested and produced before a magistrate's court which remanded them in police custody till March 22.

The MLAs were among at least 15 others who assaulted traffic police sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi inside the Assembly building on Tuesday. Suryavanshi was summoned to the legislative council on a complaint filed by Thakur that the officer had misbehaved with him.

However on sighting the officer inside the building, Thakur, Kadam and others caught hold of him and bashed him up. Suryavanshi had to be taken out in a structure and hospitalised.
