Partap Bajwa replaces Capt as MP Partap Singh Bajwa. Punjab Congress chief

The Congress tonight effected a generational shift in its Punjab unit. Capt Amarinder Singh, 71, has been removed from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and replaced by Gurdaspur MP Partap Singh Bajwa.

Maldives ex-President Nasheed arrested
India expects rule of law will be followed
New Delhi, March 5
Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested today ahead of his trial on the charge of abusing office at a magistrate court tomorrow. Tension mounted in the archipelago, as Nasheed was taken into custody after failing to attend a hearing and ignoring two arrest warrants, local media quoted police as saying.

Panabaka Lakshmi gets additional charge of textiles
New Delhi, March 5
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today effected a minor change in his Council of Ministers by giving additional charge as Minister of State for Textiles to Panabaka Lakshmi, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said this evening. The Andhra Congress leader is the Minister of State Petroleum and Natural Gas. — TNS

Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Pervez Ashrafwill visit India on Saturday to offer prayers at the Ajmer Sharif shrine for the success of his Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the upcoming polls. As of now, no meeting is scheduled between the Pakistani Premier and Indian leaders since it is purely a religious trip.
