Ramdev’s entry into HP barred
Pratibha Chauhan/TNS

Shimla, February 20
With Swami Ramdev deciding to go ahead with the inauguration of his Patanjali Yogpeeth near Sadhupul in Solan district on February 27, the government is gearing up to ensure that he is not allowed to do so and has barred his entry into the state.

Sensing that the confrontation can lead to a law and order problem as well, the government has summoned the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Solan district here tomorrow.

The formalities with regard to the issuance of the notice were discussed at length with the Law Department and senior officers so that there were no lacunae and the government was on a firm footing legally.

Apprehending a law and order problem, Ramdev could be denied permission to enter Himachal Pradesh to go ahead with his plans to inaugurate the completed portion of his project. He was given 28 acres in 2010 to set up a branch, which was so far only in Hardwar. The Cabinet decided at a meeting here yesterday to cancel the lease. The Revenue Department had submitted a report about details of the lease.

Officials pointed out that the land which had specifically been given by the erstwhile rulers of the Patiala royal family for setting up a children’s holiday home could not be given for any other purpose. The issue of a general power of attorney being made in favour of Swami Balkrishan, Ramdev’s aide, was also being questioned.
