Pak-based hawala racket busted
Tribune News Service

Dehradun, February 11
The Roorkee police has arrested an important member of a gang being operated from Pakistan that was involved in flushing out Indian currency, running into crores, through hawala every week to Pakistan.

The kingpin of the gang was operating from call centres in Pakistan. Gang members would search the contact numbers of people of India on the Internet and tell them they had won a lottery. The unsuspecting “winners” would be asked to deposit a “processing fee” for the lottery in bank accounts opened by their agents through fraudulent ways. From these accounts, money was sent to Pakistan through hawala channels.

DIG Amit Sinha said the police had been working on busting the network for some time.
