SAD supporters congratulate party president Sukhbir Singh Badal on winning the DSGMC elections at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Parkash Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday secured a landslide victory in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls, ending the 11-year unbroken run of the Sarna brothers.

Free roaming likely from March 1
New Delhi, January 30
Mobile phone users are likely to get free roaming facility across India from March 1. Sources in the Department of Telecom (DoT) said in line with the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012, preparations were underway to waive roaming charges for mobile subscribers.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asserted that his government will be prompt in pursuing the recommendations made by Justice JS Verma Committee suggesting amendments to the law in dealing with sexual assault against women. Praising the work done by the three-member committee, headed by the former Chief Justice of India, within 30 days of being set up, the Prime Minister said it bore testimony to the commitment.

Cong says not against Telangana
New Delhi, January 30
The Congress seems to be veering around the view that the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh is inevitable despite Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s refusal to set any further deadline on the formation of a separate state of Telangana today. In its first emphatic statement on the issue, the Congress today said it is not against Telangana but a final decision will take some more time

China to construct three more dams on Brahmaputra
Beijing, January 30
China has approved construction of three more dams on Brahmaputra river in Tibet in addition to the one being built, and much to the disquiet of India, it has not been informed about the plans so far. A document approved by the Chinese cabinet recently mentioned three dams to be built at Dagu, Jiacha and Jiexu on Brahmaputra, Indian officials here said.

On death anniversary, Bapu’s last fast comes alive in images
New Delhi, January 30
A rare collection of pictures, letters, postcards and telegrams from the period when Mahatma Gandhi — the man who gave the world the most powerful weapon of resistance or ‘satyagraha’ — went on fast for the last time in the winter of 1948 went on display at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) here to commemorate his 65th death anniversary.
