Files 1,260-page chargesheet naming 40 witnesses

New Delhi, January 3
The Delhi Police on Thursday filed the chargesheet against five accused in the brutal gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist.
Charges were filed against five of the six accused as the sixth claimed he is a minor. His case would be heard by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Chorus grows for banning archaic ‘virginity’ test on rape victims
New Delhi, January 3
Amid the raging debate on anti-rape laws, women organisations have urged the government to prohibit the degrading two-finger test which most hospitals continue to use on victims of rape to determine their “habituation to sex” and “virginity” and therefore their consent to the act of sexual violence.

The Supreme Court today directed the government to wake up from the “deep slumber” and prevent multinational drug companies from using unsuspecting poor patients as “guinea pigs” for clinical trials of new medicines to check their efficacy and side effects prior to marketing them.

 British NRIs once again came together to express their solidarity with the family of Delhi gang-rape victim who later died. This is the third time in a week that NRIs from the UK have rallied in support of the 23-year-old gang-rape victim. The first rally was organised by an IT engineer from Hyderabad last Saturday. It was followed by a meeting the following day for which a former Delhi police sub-inspector, Darshan Singh Grewal, was responsible. (Details on Nation page)
