CWG scam
Charges to be framed against Kalmadi, Bhanot

New Delhi, December 21
A Delhi court today said it had decided to frame charges against sacked Commonwealth Games (CWG) organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, secretary general Lalit Bhanot and nine others for their alleged involvement in a Rs 90 crore scam in the award of a contract to a Swiss company for the installation of a timing, scoring and results (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi.

Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh said he would frame charges on January 10 as there was prima facie evidence against them for corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act, criminal conspiracy (Section 120B IPC), destruction of evidence (Section 201), cheating (Section 420), forgery (Sections 467, 468 and 471) and criminal intimidation (Section 506).

The CBI has chargesheeted them for illegally awarding the contract to Swiss Timing Omega.

The other accused in the case include OC’s Director General VK Verma, Director General (procurement) Surjit Lal, Joint Director General (sports) ASV Prasad and Treasurer M Jayachandran. Among the other accused are promoters of two construction companies and the Swiss company. According to the CBI, the accused had rejected the bid from Spanish firm, MSL Spain.
