Sirsa remains tense, curfew continues
Tribune News Service

Sirsa, November 25
Sirsa continued to be under curfew for the second day today. No untoward incident was reported from the city or its neighbourhood. Security forces conducted a flag march as tension remained palpable in many areas.

District Magistrate J Ganesan has also promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 in the entire district, banning carrying of firearms.

The curfew was imposed in Sirsa yesterday after a clash between followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and those belonging to anti-dera organisations. The district administration has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the district till November 28.

Five companies of the CRPF and two of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) that arrived here last night have sealed the city, banning entry of outsiders. So far, the police has registered cases against 13 identified and around 2,000 unidentified dera followers under various sections the IPC, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the Noise Pollution Act and the Arms Act.

The dera has, meanwhile, reacted sharply to the registration of criminal cases against its followers.

Dubbing it as a one-sided action, dera spokesperson Pawan Insan has accused the police of being partisan in its investigation.

He alleged the police had booked even those functionaries of the dera, who were not present in the town at the time of the incident.
