Tribune News Service

Dehradun, November 20
The Uttarakhand Government has removed Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, chairman of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission, from his post for his alleged involvement in the double murder case of liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Chadha in New Delhi last Saturday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna had ordered an inquiry into the alleged role of Namdhari in the case.

Uttarakhand secretary, Social Welfare (Minority), MH Khan said that 14 criminal cases were registered against Namdhari, including two of heinous nature which were sub-judice.

He said that one case was filed under Section 395/397 and another under Section 147/327/171/307. He further said the presence of Namdhari’s gunner during Ponty Chadha’s murder had put Namdhari under the scanner.

Considering the possible dent to its image, the state government, with the consent of the Governor, terminated the services of Namdhari from his present post, a state government press release said.
