Cooking gas price hike put on hold
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 1
Anticipating resentment over constant increase in fuel prices, the government late on Thursday night put on hold the Rs 26.50 increase in price of cooking gas cylinders that consumers buy beyond their quota of six subsidised cylinders.

While earlier during the day, PSU oil companies like Indian Oil Corporation which had officially announced the price increase by putting the new rates on their websites, the hike was put on the back burner by night possibly after directions from the government. Though no reasons were spelt out for the reversal of the hike, the forthcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat and the ongoing festival season may have forced the government’s hand.
