Kejriwal & Co silent on Gadkari deals: Digvijay
Tribune News Service

Shimla, November 1
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh today accused Arvind Kejriwal, yoga guru Ramdev and other civil society crusaders of not pursuing charges against Nitin Gadkari. He said their studied silence on the issue confirmed his charge that they were working in tandem with the BJP.

“Kejriwal is a former Indian Revenue Service officer and he could have easily seen through the motive and the truth behind the investment made through bogus companies in the Gadkari’s company. However, he had chosen to ignore the issue. Other crusaders like Anna, Ramdev and Sri Ravi Shankar were also silent,” he said.

Gadkari had been more of a businessman than politician. His double face would be exposed soon as investigations were on to ascertain from where the fake companies located in slums were getting money to make huge investments. He said he was happy that the “Sangh Parivar and the BJP” were backing him as it would only expose their dual face. Unlike the UPA regime, which had taken action in every case, the BJP-led NDA failed to act against Bangaru Laxman and the MPs caught on camera taking money. The Congress also enacted the Right to Information Act which had helped in uncovering many cases of corruption. UPA chairperson had made it clear that the law would not be amended, he said.

Digvijay Singh alleged that Gadkari had a pie in the Adarsh Housing Society scam, too. At least 10 benami flats were financed by a private company in the society. He said he had definite information that one of the flats was owned by a sitting BJP CM, but he did not have concrete evidence in the matter.

He also wanted to know for what purpose the Ford Foundation had given $4 lakh to Kejriwal’s NGO.

He also lambasted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks against Shashi Tharoor and his wife. He said he should clear the haze from his own marriage to Yashoda Behn held in 1968 and explain why he had not mentioned his marital status in the official record.

The Congress leader denied that the government had favoured Reliance Industries. He said the company was forced to sell natural gas from the KG basin at one-third of the market price, saving $15 billion to $18 billion for the country. Had the government been favourably inclined, the company would not have been constrained to move the Supreme Court.

Regarding the LPG gas price hike, he said the matter was likely to be reviewed and anyway the Congress governments had already announced to provide three additional refills at subsidised rates. In case of Himachal, the party had promised to give 12 LPG refills at subsided rates, he added. If the BJP was serious about price rise, it could have done the same in the states ruled by it.

The Centre was getting a tax revenue of Rs 85,000 crore from petroleum products and was giving a subsidy of Rs 1,40,000 crore, whereas states were earning a revenue of Rs 1,15,000 crore but not giving any subsidy, he said.

Dhumal’s PAN numbers

Digvijay Singh has asked Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister PK Dhumal to explain the mystery behind his PAN numbers as he has quoted different PAN numbers in various affidavits filed by him from 2001 onwards
