Shruti eager to marry Nishan, complete her studies
Varinder Singh/TNS

Jalandhar, October 29
Shruti Sachdeva is keen to marry her ‘kidnapper’ Nishan Singh Brar and complete her studies. In a meeting facilitated by Jalandhar Police Commissioner Gaurav Yadav between Shruti and her family members at the Nari Niketan here, the young girl seemed very clear about her goals in life. Shruti conveyed her persistent fondness for Nishan to her parents.

Two members of Faridkot Action Committee, Gurdit Singh and Shivinder Singh, former Punjab Woman Commission chairperson Gurdev Kaur Sangha and social activists Purnima Berry and Suman Sareen were also present at the meeting. “She does not repent her decision and still exhibits her fondness for Nishan Singh. It is a social and legal issue. We need to tackle the entire case with care,” said Sangha.

“Shruti clearly told her parents that she wanted to marry Nishan. She wants to complete her studies and then pursue Masters in Commerce. She has requested for her books and also spiritual study material on Sai Baba,” said activists Berry and Sareen. Shruti, it is learnt, had expressed reservations about meeting her parents but senior police officials and social activists managed to persuade her for the meeting. Shruti’s mother Seema Sachdeva, father Ashwani Sachdeva, sister Sakshi Sachdeva and uncle Sandeep Sachdeva were present at the meeting.

Shruti has been kept at the Jalandhar Nari Niketan on court orders. She told her mother that she was feeling much relaxed at the Nari Niketan and wants to stay there. “She doesn’t want to go back to Faridkot,” said Sangha.

“Regardless of any statement from Shruti’s side, the Punjab Police will act against perpetrators of the crime. No stone will be left unturned to challan them in the court. The charges of kidnapping and other offences remain as statement of a minor holds no importance in such cases,” said Jalandhar Police Commissioner Gaurav Yadav.
