Shruti says Nishan her husband, refuses medical test
Duo brought to Delhi from Goa, to reach Faridkot today; girl to be handed over to family

Chandigarh, October 22
Shruti Sachdeva, the 15-year-old Faridkot girl who was allegedly abducted from her residence last month, has refused to undergo a medical examination in Goa saying Nishan, the person accused of kidnapping her, is her husband.

The girl will now be asked to undergo a medical examination in the presence of her family in Faridkot tomorrow.

State police chief Sumedh Singh Saini today said both Shruti and Nishan had been airlifted to Delhi from Goa and would be taken to Faridkot by road. Nishan has been remanded in police custody by a Goa court till October 24.

The police did not press for a medical examination of Shruti in Goa because of her claim that nobody had any business to examine her medically. Moreover, her parents were also not present at the spot.

Nishan, who is still being questioned by the police, is expected to be produced in a court on October 25 for further remand.

The DGP said 15 out of 17 accused in the case had been arrested. Only Nishan’s mother and another accused Dimpy Samra were still at large, he added.

According to him, Nishan had planned the abduction and had taken along Rs 2.5 lakh with him before forcibly taking Shruti from the custody of her parents. Nishan apparently took this step three days after Shruti’s family rebuffed a proposal by his mother to get him married to Shruti.

According to the investigation headed by Bathinda IG Nirmal Singh Dhillon, after taking away Shruti from her residence forcibly on September 24, the four accused in the case, including Nishan, went their separate ways.

Nishan first boarded a bus for Moga and then for Ludhiana from where he came to Chandigarh. Nishan and Shruti stayed in Sector 22 of Chandigarh for a night. Then they left for Gurgaon where they stayed for a couple of days. It was during this period that they went to a courier company in Paharganj and sent letters to various authorities.

They boarded a train to Goa on September 28. In Goa, they hired a shack on the Baga beach for Rs 18,000 a month. They masqueraded as Gurpreet Singh and Jasmeet Kaur on the bases of fake driving licences. The IG said a 12-member team was airlifted to Goa after a tip-off and both Nishan and Shruti were apprehended while relaxing on the beach.
