Mumbai, October 21
Veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra, who was undergoing treatment for dengue at the Lilavati Hospital here, passed away on Sunday evening. He was 80.

He is survived by wife Pamela and two sons, filmmaker Aditya Chopra and actor-producer Uday Chopra.

The veteran producer-director was rushed to hospital on October 13 after he was diagnosed with dengue. "He passed away due to dengue and multiple organ failure at 5.30 pm today. He was in the ICU," Lilavati spokesperson Dr Sudhir said.

Chopra, known for a number of romantic hits, had almost completed his upcoming and last film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ scheduled for a Diwali release. Only a song in Switzerland remained to be shot when Chopra took ill.

On his 80th birthday on September 27, Chopra, who directed his first film 'Dhool Ka Phool' way back in 1959, announced retirement from direction.
