Velvet touch
Every season, trends evolve and some new ones come to the fore. In that regard, October is no different but what's special about this month is that it's the season of celebrations. When we talk of festivals (read Navratras, Karva Chauth and Diwali), it simply means dressing to the hilt and splurging all the savings that you have made this year! And to dress you up, we list brocade-lined, velvet embedded, dori, zardozi, crystal and gotta patti work fabrics.
Talk silhouettes and the word 'simple and straight' does not fit the dictionary of fashion, but then the Indian sensibility is beautifully maintained in all that we have for the festive ensemble. As for the colour palette, it goes from neon to brighter hues where shades of peach, blue, green, purple and even hints of coral are in vogue.
Jackie
gets
Lucky
Why a Punjabi film now? The question fetches us a philosophical answer from actor Jackie Shroff. "I am like water; I can take any shape. I believe I will be like this always." Dressed in a bandhgala, with cool shades to match his apun bindaas look, the actor is making his debut in Punjabi movie Lucky Di Unlucky Story starring Gippy Grewal and directed by Smeep Kang. Jackie slips into his role of Fateh Singh with absolute ease, as if he was born to do this!
An inspiration called woman...
If you thought we have imbibed the working women culture from the West, Prithamnian, an exhibition of inspiring women from Sikh history, makes you question that and many more such beliefs. Eleven frames, culled from rather recent history, give a peep into the lives of these worthy women — warriors who actually went to the battlefield to ones who seamlessly blended the roles of a home-maker and political advisor. Neeta Mohindra, an actor, director and painter has brought together her varied skills to present these mesmerising works in mix media.
