Jind, October 7
The police has arrested four persons in connection with the gang rape of a minor Dalit girl at Sachakhera village of the district. Three of them were remanded in police custody while the only woman accused was sent in judicial custody by a local court at Narwana this morning.

The victim, who succumbed to her injuries in hospital last night, after she immolated herself following the incident, was cremated in the village today. The police vigil in the area has been increased after the incident, the second in the subdivision in the past four days.

“We have arrested all four accused, Pradeep, his sister-in-law Meena, Sandip and Navin,” said SSP Saurabh Singh. In her statement before a duty magistrate, the victim had accused Meena of helping two main accused in committing the crime.

The victim was allegedly raped by Pradeep and Navin as others kept guard. Pradeep had reportedly pulled the girl inside his house while she was walking down the street on Saturday afternoon. While Sandeep locked the main door of the house from outside, Meena stood on the terrace to keep a watch. After the incident, the girl ran to the house of a kin where she poured kerosene and set herself afire.

The reason why a woman helped the accused (who were also Dalits) in the committing the crime was yet to be ascertained.
