Mamata threatens no-trust motion against UPA
govt New Delhi, October 1 Mamata said contrary to its claim of working for the “aam aadmi”, the coalition was protecting interests of corporate houses. Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav shared platform with Mamata. “In the name of growth and economic development, the government has sold the nation in the hands of rich corporate giants of the West, such as Wal-Mart,” Mamata said while addressing party activists from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Delhi. This was the first such rally in Delhi by the TMC after it withdrew support to the UPA. Spurred by today’s response, the TMC threatened to launch nationwide protests. She appealed to the Samajwadi Party to be a part of the campaign. Hailing her as the “Tigress of India”, Sharad Yadav said: “She will be remembered for the sacrifices (quitting the UPA government) she had made for the common man of India. She has dared to rebel for over 25 crore people who will lose their jobs due to the government decision on FDI. We support her protest, but I am here not representing any party but as an Indian. We all in the Opposition are against the Centre’s FDI decision and this protest will now spread across the country.” Mamata said the government’s anti-people policies would ruin people’s lives by taking away jobs. “We fought elections together and I stayed in the government for three years, but I was not heard. Owing to the Congress Party’s imposing nature, six of my MPs resigned. If it is required, we will bring a no-confidence motion against the government. We will not let them exploit the public,” she said. We fought elections together and I stayed in the government for three years, but I was not heard…. If it is required, we will bring a no-confidence motion against the government. We will not let them exploit the public. — Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress chief
