Cong-ruled states to raise LPG cylinder cap from 6 to 9

New Delhi, September 19
Despite talking tough and ruling out of a rollback of its market-friendly reforms, the government on Wednesday appeared softening its stand as a large part of the country braced for a strike against foreign companies entering multi-brand retail trade and the hike in diesel prices.

A day after the Trinamool Congress pulled out of the UPA over the issues, the dominant Congress asked states run by the party to raise the quota of subsidised cooking gas cylinders from six to nine. "Sonia Gandhi has asked Congress CMs that now the government's decision of subsidising six cylinders should be increased to nine. Now nine cylinders will be given at subsidised prices," spokesperson Janardan Dwivedi said.

Congress-ruled Delhi and Haryana have already announced they will give three more cylinders. — IANS
