To save 3-yr-old, flight makes emergency landing at Amritsar

Amritsar, August 29
A Jet Airways flight from Milan to New Delhi made an emergency landing at the Amritsar International Airport to provide medical assistance to an ailing three-year-old girl aboard, but the effort went in vain as the child was declared brought dead, officials said.

Jasmeet Kaur, her father Gurmit Singh, mother Jaspreet Kaur and elder brother, all residents of Pehowa in Haryana, were flying to New Delhi from Milan as the child she was facing difficulty in walking.

Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport officiating Director G Venugopal said the medical team stationed at the airport was rushed to provide immediate aid to Jasmeet as soon as she de-planed, but she was declared brought dead at the doctor who attended on her at the airport. He said the girl’s parents insisted on approaching a private hospital with the expectation of being able to revive her.

Sources said Jasmeet started vomiting badly on board and complained of breathlessness. Subsequently, her condition became critical.

Venugopal said after the girl developed health complications on board, flight crew approached the ground staff at the Amritsar airport seeking permission for an emergency landing, which was granted.

The Milan-New Delhi flight with 92 passengers on board landed at Amritsar airport at 8.45 am and resumed its remaining journey at around 10 am.

The police has registered a case under the relevant section of the CrPC.

Efforts go in vain
