Curtains drew on the high drama over the change of leadership in the state today after the Congress high command decided in principle to appoint former Union Minister Virbhadra Singh as the Pradesh Congress Committee chief in place of Kaul Singh to help resolve the crisis in the party ahead of the Assembly polls.

For long considered dream jobs for any aspiring Indian youth, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) are today facing a huge shortfall of officers and it may take several years to bridge the gap. Reasons for the shortfall include slow rate of recruitment and trained officers opting out mid-career for hefty private sector pay packages.

Road accident
Compensation must cover loss of expectation in life: SC
New Delhi, August 26
The Supreme Court has awarded a compensation of Rs 34.38 lakh to a road accident victim struggling with 90-100 per cent disability, observing that loss of expectation in life should also be taken into account. The victim, a woman, was earning just Rs 12,000 a month at the time of the accident in May 2004.
