Delhi cops get 3 more days to grill Kanda
Himani Chandel/TNS

New Delhi, August 25
The Delhi Police’s argument that it needed an extension in the custody of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda in the Geetika Sharma suicide case to recover mobile phones, especially the one used by the former air-hostess, and travel documents was upheld by a Rohini court that granted three additional days for police interrogation.

The police sought a seven-day extension after the expiry of its custody today on the grounds that besides the mobile phones of the accused, some computer hard disks were also to be located and seized. Also, bank accounts of MDLR airline employees needed to be checked to verify whether these were used by Kanda for transactions.

They said that Geetika was using a mobile phone when was the director of MDLR airlines, but she had returned it after she resigned from that position.

He also informed the court that Kanda had three copies of his passport - two of these have not been deposited. The police counsel said these documents were needed to establish that Kanda had followed Geetika to Dubai when she began working for Emirates airlines.

Kanda’s advocate Ramesh Gupta said the police had not produced any evidence to link Kanda to Geetika’s suicide. He claimed the Haryana MLA had not established any contact with her in the past two months. Police today called Geetika’s brother Ankit for questioning. It is understood to have detained two more employees of MDLR airlines for interrogation late last night.

Assistant Human Resource Manager Shivroop has already been detained. Another employee of Kanda’s Goa-based casino, Ankita, is expected to join probe soon.
