New Delhi, August 22
Delhi Police is gradually casting its investigating net wider in the Geetika Sharma suicide case. On their radar are more former employees of the Gopal Goyal Kanda’s MDLR Group. The names of at least four of them, including a Bollywood actress Nupur Mehta, are under the scanner.

The police today said it planned to seek from the court seven-day extension of custody of former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda, who had surrendered before it on August 19. Police sources said the role of Mehta, Ankita Singh, Khushboo Sinha and Shivroop is being examined. It has despatched an investigation team to Goa to search two casinos owned by Kanda.

Police is also on the lookout for Ankita, adding that actress Mehta, who also worked with Geetika in the casino, could be interrogated. It plans to question Ankita about the alleged pressure on Geetika from Kanda for withdrawal of an FIR.

Police said MDLR Assistant HR Manager Shivroop, who allegedly created fake emails, can, if the need arises, be taken into custody. “Investigation is on against him as well. We will take action against him as we have come to know during the probe that Shivroop sent a fake email to Geetika when she was in Dubai,” Dharmender Kumar, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) said at a press conference here. “Both Shivroop and Ankita can be arrested as soon as we get evidence against them,” Northwest district police chief P Karunakaran said.

Police said Kanda may be required for further questioning. “We will seek extension of his police remand. Right now, we will take him for investigation according to the need,” Kumar said.

He said the police is contemplating slapping of fresh charges on Kanda.

Yesterday, the police added Section 66 (a) of Information Technology Act against him for allegedly sending false electronic messages leading to harassment of the deceased.

“We will add more sections against Kanda after getting the relevant evidence,” said Kumar.

He indicated that the former minister could be charged for destruction of evidence under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

He went on to state that they were looking for the people who helped Kanda evade arrest and remain underground, and would be taking appropriate action against them.
