Armed with evidence that Pakistan-based radical organisations were using social networking sites to upload morphed videos and pictures to whip up communal sentiments against people of the North-East, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde called up his Pakistan counterpart Rehman Malik and asked him to act against such elements.

Former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda in Gurgaon, brought by Delhi police investigators on Sunday. The Delhi Police today seized computer servers from the office of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who is accused of abetting suicide of former flight attendant Geetika Sharma (23).

7 dead as rains lash North
New Delhi, August 19
Seven persons were killed in rain-related incidents in the northern region where showers brought down temperatures giving relief from hot and humid weather. However, rains eluded the national capital, where temperature remained above normal levels. Four children of a family were killed when their house collapsed following heavy rainfall in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning. Six other members of the family were also injured.

Coal blocks’ auction in 3 months: Govt
New Delhi, August 19
The government is finalising the document for competitive bidding of captive coal blocks which hitherto been handed down on recommendation by an inter-ministerial committee headed by the Coal Secretary. Auction of captive coal blocks will start in around three months, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said today.

Wheat allergy cause for range of ailments in North India kids: PGI
Chandigarh, August 19
A team of researchers at PGI has established that chronic diarrhoea is not the sole indicator of celiac disease (wheat allergy) in children. In a study conducted over nearly 450 children across north Indian states, it was found that wheat allergy was the key factor resulting in anaemia, short stature, constipation, hepatitis and rickets among a large number of children.
