New Delhi, August 17
Former Haryana Minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who has been absconding since August 8 when he did not appear before the police for questioning in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, will surrender before the police in the wee hours on Saturday, said his lawyers.

His brother Govind Kanda was arrested tonight for protecting him. “We have arrested Govind Kanda,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) P Karunakaran said.

Earlier today, Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail application on grounds that it was not filed by him, as he is apprehending arrest, but by his brother, Govind Kanda.

Gopal’s lawyers said that he would surrender before the police at the Ashok Vihar police station in the North-West District of Delhi. The police will arrest him, because a Delhi court on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

As the police anxiously waited for Gopal to surrender, Govind had reached the police station and the police detained him. Govind’s questioning was on.

The police is likely to ask Govind about the places where Gopal was living secretively since August 8. Govind, while speaking to reporters, confirmed that his brother would surrender. He said, “My brother has not done anything wrong. He will be proved innocent and will obey the law.”
