Fiza, ex-wife of Haryana former Dy CM, found dead
Kulwinder Sangha

Mohali, August 6
Fiza alias Anuradha Bali, estranged wife of former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, was found dead in her Sector 48 house here this morning today. The maggot-eaten body of the Fiza, a former assistant advocate general of Haryana, was found lying on a bed in the ground floor of her house.

A postmortem report later revealed that the cause of her death was not a murder. The viscera has been sent for chemical examination. GPS Bhullar, SSP Mohali, said, “No suicide note was found”.

A panel of doctors was constituted in the evening to carry out the autopsy at Phase VI Civil Hospital. Not ruling out foul play, the CIA wing of the Mohali police is tracking her movements over her last few days and persons with whom she was seen before her suspected date of death.

Fiza had shot into the news for marrying Chander Mohan in 2008 and but was later divorced by the former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister. When asked, Chander Mohan paused for a while and said in a choked voice, “I don’t want to comment. I have had no contact with her for the past two years. I am not bothered about what anyone does at his or her place.”

The police said that she was alone at home. “Going by the state of the body, it looks that she must have died three to four days ago,” said DS Mann, Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The police was called to her house by her uncle after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from her house.

The police had to break open the door to get inside. The neighbours said that she seemed to be depressed for the past few months, especially after her mother passed away.

She had been living alone in the house and had several arguments and fights with neighbours in the area in the past couple of months and was even arrested in this regard.

According to reports, a bottle of liquor, two glasses, a packet of cigarettes and a mouth freshner were lying in the room where Fiza was found dead.

Ritu Lal, a neighbour, said that the last time she saw Fiza was on August 1 when the latter was crossing the park in front of her house.

Sat Pal, an uncle of the deceased, said Fiza had rung him up on August 1 to invite him for Raksha Bandhan the next day. But he did not meet her on August 2. Later, when he tried to contact her several times on the phone, the calls remained unattended.

About 15 days back, Fiza had stayed with an advocate friend at a flat in Sector 20, Panchkula. According to Suman, the girl who was sharing the flat with Fiza, the latter used to come at around 11 pm and go at around 10 am the next day.

Meanwhile, security was deployed by the Panchkula police outside Chander Mohan’s house in Sector 8, Panchkula, after the incident.
