Mumbai/New Delhi, August 2
The Ministry of Home Affairs today described the near-simultaneous explosions in Pune yesterday as a planned and coordinated act.Union Home Secretary RK Singh said that forensic experts were examining the two unexploded IEDs and the nature of the four blasts. Sources said the timers in the bombs were made of locally produced low-quality watches indicating that the bomb assemblers knew how to set timed devices.

"As the blasts have taken place within an area of 500m and within a span of 45 minutes, it appears to be a coordinated act. I am sure that there was a plan behind it," he told reporters in New Delhi.

Teams of the National Investigation Agency, National Security Guards and Central Forensic Science Laboratory reached Pune in the wee hours today. In addition to the Pune police, the anti-terror squad of the Maharashtra Police is also at the spot. A team of the Delhi Police has also gone to study the blasts.

In Pune, footage from CCTV cameras installed at a number of places in the area was being studied.
