  • Shuttler Parupalli Kashyap and teenage paddler Soumyajit Ghosh (R) brightened an otherwise gloomy first day for India by winning their opening matches
  • India's mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju lost their opening group league match against Indonesian pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir
  • Men’s archery team crashed out after losing to Japan. The Indians led for a while, but Japan came back to force a shootout which they won 29-27
  • A major disappointment in the ring was Shiva Thapa, who could not live up to the pre-Games hype, and got pounded by his Mexican rival Oscar Valdez 14-9 in the 56 kg class
