Residents of Dimol village leave their homes following ethnic clashes in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. — PTI escalated in more areas of western Assam, with the death toll in the ongoing violence in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts rising to 32 after 11 more persons were killed in police firing.

Tells Home Secretary to file affidavit in a week
New Delhi, July 24
The Supreme Court today rejected Hisar Deputy Commissioner’s status report on the relief and rehabilitation provided to the victims of the April 2010 anti-Dalit violence at Mirchpur village and directed the Principal Secretary (Home) to file an affidavit on the issue within a week.

Yatra deaths: BJP submits memorandum to PC
New Delhi, July 24
Expressing concern over the large number of deaths during the Amarnath yatra this year, a high-powered BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to Home Minister P Chidambaram today urging the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Government to improve facilities for pilgrims and restore the duration of the yatra to what it was originally.

CBI says Raja misled PM, gives clean chit to PC
New Delhi, July 24
The going seems to be getting tougher for A Raja in the 2G spectrum scam with the CBI today telling the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was consistently misled by the former telecom minister. The CBI gave the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram a clean chit, saying there is no criminal culpability on his part.

59% Indian students in UK were ‘bogus’ last year 
An estimated 59 per cent of Indian students admitted to the UK last year may have been bogus applicants, a newly published study says. The startling claim is made by London-based think tank Migration Watch UK which bases its assessment on the findings of a Home Office pilot scheme that examined student visa applications to see if they were genuine.
